Creation is God’s work. Before humanity was, the rest of creation came into being. The earth and her creatures – indeed the whole cosmos – have beauty, dignity and meaning before human presence. So to nurture awe at the wonder of creation is part of our calling. Look up into the skies, walk in the fields, stand at the ocean’s edge. Everything belongs, everything has beauty! The garden is such an insightful model for our care of creation.. Our call is to be good gardeners, thoughtful, alert and diligent, working with the soil and with the rhythm of the seasons, caring for the creatures who find home and shelter in the garden.

As Catholics, we have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which allows us to experience God’s forgiveness personally. It is a reminder of His boundless love and mercy. In turn, it should inspire us to be forgiving and merciful in our interactions with others. We must remember that forgiveness is not just a one-time act but a continuous disposition of the heart. Let us be mindful of the unforgiving servant in the parable and strive to be merciful and forgiving as our Heavenly Father is to us. In doing so, we bear witness to the transformative power of God’s love and mercy in our lives and in the world.

God is not fair. In any case, it is not fair in human terms. For us, fairness means getting paid in proportion to the work done. For God, justice is equal pay. Where does this discrepancy come from? We value man in proportion to what he gives us. God values man because of his existence. For us, the existence of another human being has value when something results from this existence. For God, the existence of each of us is in itself a priceless value. In today’s Gospel, employment in a vineyard means accepting Love as your way of life. Whoever has done it has done EVERYTHING and ‘earned’ the highest wage.

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
27 September 2026 • World Day of Migrants and Refugees
It is surprising that even though migration is a phenomenon as old as time, both globally and locally we remain so divided in relation to it. Perhaps the different ways to define someone that moved from home makes it easier to alienate and discriminate against migrants, but if yes then we as a society have a responsibility to remember that we are all people and we are all trying our best to live life as best we can. The way in which this is possible is different for everyone, and everyone deserves to have their human rights respected regardless of where they come from and where they end up on this planet.
