Thought for the Day
Fifth Sunday of Easter
3 May 2026
‘He’s the life of the party’ is a compliment of high regard in certain circles. He’s the spark plug, the guarantee for an entertaining evening. If he’s not there, a deflated feeling hangs in the air and everybody wonders if there isn’t a better way to be spending their time.
A life lived with Jesus is never dull. He is the ‘Life’ of more than just a party.
The Christian with an intense relationship with Christ is completely fulfilled – she is never bored, nor is she boring.

Sixth Sunday of Easter
10 May 2026
Jesus speaks about being still alive even after his death. Mostly we find Jesus to be alive for us in the love of others. There is an energy of love which is connected to the energy of God, for God is love. This is the working of the Spirit of god, alive in love, care and compassion, and in all other good works.
Love is evident in action and any activity can be tiring. I do not need to rely on my own resources but turn to God who promises to help me, ready to send the Holy Spirit. Like a bargain-hunter or a bird-spotter, I train my heart to recognise the ways of God.

The Ascension of the Lord
17 May 2026 • World Communications Day
Leonardo da Vinci had started to work on a large canvas in his studio. Then suddenly he stopped working on it. Summoning one of his talented students, the master invited him to complete the work. The student protested that he was unworthy and unable to complete the great painting which his master had begun.
But da Vinci silenced him. ‘Will not what I have done inspire you to do your best?’ Jesus our Master began to spread the Good News two thousand years ago by what he said and did, and supremely by what he suffered. Jesus illustrated his message and left us to finish the picture.
Will Jesus’ life not inspire us to finish the picture? This is the message of the Ascension.

Pentecost Sunday
24 May 2026 • Day of Prayer for the Church in China
Our Lord knows the perfect antidote to fear: peace. He bestowed peace on his apostles, who were locked in the upper room. And He always brings peace to us when we let him into our moments of prayer or activity. Peace is his ‘trademark,’ a sure sign of his presence in our life.
Even when life circumstances challenge us, Jesus brings peace if we invite him in. Why do we hesitate? Come Holy Spirit! Reign in my heart and cast out all fear.

The Most Holy Trinity
31 May 2026
What is it to live a Trinitarian Life? Whenever we feel hatred or think dark thoughts about anyone or anything, the invitation of Love is to counter it with an action of Love and Compassion towards that which we sense ourselves ‘hating.’
Do we believe in the power of Love Present in everything? Are we open to practice it however impossible it seems?
Negative energy can be replaced by Life Giving Energy, but it is a practice we must consciously enter into and sometimes it takes great patience and trust over a long period.
The simple truth is if we persistently hate we beget hate. If we persistently endeavour to Love, we beget Love.
